Getting Started

How do I create a WordPress site?

Creating a site is straightforward. Sign up for an account, choose your plan, and click "Create Site" from your dashboard. You'll pick a temporary subdomain name, and WordPress will be installed automatically. The entire process takes less than two minutes. Once your site is live, you can connect a custom domain from the site settings.

How long does setup take?

Most sites are fully provisioned in under two minutes. This includes creating your server environment, installing WordPress, configuring the database, and issuing your SSL certificate. You'll receive a notification as soon as your site is ready to use.

What's included with every plan?

Every Lumin Hosting plan includes a free SSL certificate, daily automated backups, a temporary subdomain, custom domain support, a built-in file manager, one-click WordPress admin login, error log viewer, DNS management, two-factor authentication, per-site isolation, resource monitoring, and multi-PHP support. Higher-tier plans add features like Redis object cache, WP-CLI access, staging environments, and priority support. Check our pricing page for a full comparison.

Can I migrate my existing WordPress site?

Yes. You can migrate an existing WordPress site to Lumin Hosting. Create a new site on your dashboard, then use a migration plugin such as All-in-One WP Migration or Duplicator to export your site from your old host and import it into your new Lumin environment. If you run into any issues during the migration, our support team is happy to assist. We recommend testing your site on the temporary subdomain before pointing your custom domain to ensure everything works correctly.

Billing & Pricing

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through Stripe, our payment processor. All transactions are securely handled by Stripe and we never store your card details on our servers.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, we offer a 7-day free trial on all plans. You get full access to every feature included in your chosen plan during the trial period. No charges are made until the trial ends, and you can cancel at any time before the trial expires without being billed.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time from your dashboard. When you cancel, your site will remain active until the end of your current billing period. There are no cancellation fees or long-term contracts.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time directly from your billing page. When you switch plans, the cost is prorated automatically -- you'll only pay the difference for the remaining time on your current billing cycle when upgrading, or receive a credit toward your next invoice when downgrading. Changes take effect immediately.

What is your refund policy?

We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on all plans. If you're not satisfied within the first 14 days of your subscription, contact our support team and we'll process a full refund -- no questions asked. Refunds after the 14-day window are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Do you accept promo codes?

Yes, we accept promo codes. You can apply a promo code at checkout when subscribing to a plan. The discount will be reflected in your total before payment is processed. Promo codes cannot be combined with other offers, and each code can only be used once per account.

Domains & SSL

How do I connect a custom domain?

From your site dashboard, go to the Domain settings. Enter your custom domain and we'll provide you with the DNS records to add at your domain registrar. Once the DNS records propagate (usually within a few minutes to a few hours), your domain will be connected and an SSL certificate will be issued automatically.

What is the temporary subdomain?

Every site you create gets a free temporary subdomain like yoursite.luminhosting.com. You can use this to build and preview your site immediately, without needing to own a domain. When you're ready, you can connect a custom domain at any time.

Is SSL included?

Yes, free SSL certificates are included with every plan and are automatically renewed. We use Let's Encrypt to provision certificates for both your temporary subdomain and any custom domains you connect. Your site is served over HTTPS from day one -- there is nothing to configure.

Can I manage DNS records?

Yes, Lumin Hosting includes a built-in DNS zone editor accessible from your site dashboard. You can add, edit, and remove A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, and other record types directly without needing a separate DNS management tool. This is especially convenient if you want to manage email routing, domain verification, or other DNS-related configurations in one place.

WordPress & Tools

What PHP versions are available?

We currently support PHP 8.2 and PHP 8.3, both with JIT compilation and OPcache enabled for optimal performance. You can switch between PHP versions on a per-site basis directly from your site dashboard. This is useful if you have a plugin or theme that requires a specific PHP version.

Do you provide WP-CLI access?

Yes, WP-CLI access is available on Pro and Business plans. You can run WP-CLI commands directly from your site dashboard, giving you powerful command-line control over your WordPress installation without needing SSH. This includes managing plugins, themes, users, database operations, search-replace, and more.

Can I edit files from the dashboard?

Yes, Lumin Hosting includes a built-in file manager accessible from your site dashboard. You can browse your WordPress file structure, create and edit files, upload and download files, and manage permissions -- all from your browser. This is available on all plans and eliminates the need for a separate FTP or SFTP client for most tasks.

How does one-click WP admin login work?

One-click WP admin login lets you access your WordPress admin dashboard directly from the Lumin dashboard without needing to remember or type your WordPress username and password. When you click the login button, a secure, time-limited authentication token is generated and you are automatically logged into your WordPress admin panel. This is available on all plans.

Can I view error logs?

Yes, you can view PHP error logs and Nginx access/error logs directly from your site dashboard. The error log viewer displays recent entries with timestamps, making it easy to debug issues with plugins, themes, or custom code. This is available on all plans and does not require any server-level access.

Security

How is my site protected?

We employ multiple layers of security to protect every site on the platform. Each WordPress site runs under a dedicated Linux user with its own PHP-FPM pool, ensuring complete process-level isolation. Our servers are protected by UFW firewall rules and fail2ban intrusion prevention, which automatically blocks IP addresses showing malicious behavior. PHP is hardened with open_basedir restrictions that prevent scripts from accessing files outside their own site directory, and dangerous PHP functions are disabled by default. All connections are encrypted with free SSL certificates, and we apply security patches to the server stack regularly.

Do you support two-factor authentication?

Yes, Lumin Hosting supports TOTP-based two-factor authentication (2FA) for your hosting account. You can enable 2FA from your account security settings using any authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password. Once enabled, you'll need to enter a time-based code in addition to your password each time you log in, adding a significant layer of protection to your account.

How do backups work?

We perform automated daily backups of all sites, including both files and databases. Backups are stored securely and retained for multiple days, so you can restore to a recent point in time if needed. You can trigger a restore directly from your site dashboard with one click. Backups are included with every plan at no extra cost.

How are sites isolated from each other?

Every WordPress site on Lumin Hosting runs in a fully isolated environment. Each site gets its own dedicated Linux user, its own PHP-FPM pool, and its own database credentials. PHP's open_basedir directive restricts each site to its own file directory, preventing any cross-site file access. This means that even if one site is compromised, other sites on the same server are unaffected. This is the same level of isolation offered by hosts like Hostinger and Bluehost using CloudLinux -- but built natively into our stack.

Technical

What server stack do you use?

Our server stack is optimized for WordPress performance. We run Nginx 1.28 as the web server, PHP 8.3 with JIT compilation and OPcache enabled, MariaDB 11.4 as the database engine, and Redis for object caching on eligible plans. The operating system is Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, which receives long-term security updates. This combination delivers fast page loads, efficient database queries, and reliable uptime.

Can I access my database directly?

Yes. Each WordPress site has its own isolated MariaDB 11.4 database with unique credentials. You can manage your database through phpMyAdmin (accessible from your site dashboard) or via WP-CLI commands on Pro and Business plans. Database credentials are available in your site's settings panel.

Where are your servers located?

Our servers are hosted on Hetzner Cloud in Helsinki, Finland. Hetzner is a well-established European infrastructure provider known for reliability and performance. The Helsinki data center is GDPR compliant, making it an excellent choice for businesses and individuals who need to meet European data protection requirements. The location also provides low-latency connectivity across Europe and solid performance worldwide.

What is your uptime guarantee?

We guarantee 99.9% uptime for all sites hosted on Lumin Hosting. This means your site should experience no more than approximately 43 minutes of unplanned downtime per month. Our infrastructure is monitored around the clock, and we proactively address issues before they impact your sites. In the rare event of extended downtime, we will work with you to make it right.
